We lay resin bound and bonded paths, and tarmac or gravel routes where they suit better, for homeowners, schools, parish councils, care homes, hotels and estates across the UK. A 21 m2 parish footpath in resin bound came to about £154 per m2 excluding VAT, and one installer publishes £60 to £100 per m2 for a SUDS-compliant bound surface. Time on site is fixed after the survey. Send photos and rough lengths, and we arrange a survey and quote.

Small paths cost more per m2 than large areas, because edging, preparation and set-up are spread over fewer square metres.

How much does a resin bound path cost?

On the dated quotes we can find, a short resin bound footpath costs about £154 per m2 before VAT, and a SUDS-compliant bound surface from about £60 to £100 per m2. Larger areas usually come in cheaper per m2. The base matters most: laying over a sound existing path costs far less than digging out and building a new sub-base. Use our resin designer to get a price band for your path.

Resin, tarmac or self-binding gravel: which suits school and park paths?

Choose by use, drainage and budget. Resin bound is smooth, permeable and decorative, and suits main routes, entrances and courtyards. Tarmac is the lower-cost option for long service routes and vehicle access; see car park surfacing. Self-binding gravel looks natural in parks and gardens but can rut and spread on slopes. On Cuckfield’s 2021 quotes, the resin finish added about £1,235 to a 21 m2 path over a plain resurface.

What do homeowners need to know about garden paths?

That a garden path is a small job with the same rules as a large one: a sound base, proper edging and drainage. Resin bound can be laid over a sound existing concrete or tarmac path in many cases, which saves digging. Our homeowners page covers garden courts, play areas and paths together.

Resin driveways are a different job with a different buyer, and we do not cover them on this site.

Are resin paths suitable for wheelchairs and buggies?

A well-laid resin bound path gives a smooth, firm, joint-free surface that suits wheelchairs, walking frames and buggies, which is why care homes and schools choose it. Keep the edges flush with the ground beside the path, avoid loose stone on top and make sure gradients and cross-falls are gentle. Ask for the finished levels to be stated on the quote.

Is a resin path permeable, and will it drain?

Resin bound surfaces are porous, so rainwater passes through the stone into the base below, provided the base itself drains. Resin bonded surfaces, where stone is scattered onto a resin coat, are not porous. For the difference in full, see resin bound vs resin bonded, and for larger areas and SuDS questions see resin bound surfacing.

Illustrative example

From the table only. A care home wants a 40 m2 garden loop. At the Cuckfield rate of about £154 per m2 that is roughly £6,200 before VAT; at the lower SUDS bound range of £60 to £100 per m2 it is £2,400 to £4,000. The difference comes from the base, the aggregate and the age of the Cuckfield quote.

Who does the work

Play and Sport Surfaces is a WeDo Property Services service. Alex Winser manages your path from survey to handover, and the surfacing teams prepare the base and lay the resin.

Often needed alongside

For a decorative, non-porous finish on steps or ramps, see resin bonded surfacing. School and park paths often run between play zones, covered on school playground surfacing.

FAQs

Can resin be laid over an existing path?

Often, if the path is sound and level; the survey checks it.

How long before we can walk on it?

The quote states the curing time; it depends on the product and the weather.

Can you lay resin in school colours?

Aggregate blends come in many colours; ask for samples.

Do you lay resin driveways?

Not on this site; driveways are a separate service.

What do you need to quote a path?

Photos, rough length and width, what the path is made of now, and how it is reached.
