Play and Sport Surfaces delivers play areas, resin paths, public realm and car park surfaces for housebuilders, main contractors, housing associations and estates teams across the UK. Published prices run from about £40 to £140 per m2 for wetpour play surfaces, £60 to £100 per m2 for SUDS-compliant bound surfaces, and £625 to £1,270 to line a car park of about 37 bays, all excluding VAT. We programme around your plot phasing and hand over with the records an adopting council or management company asks for.
On most schemes the play area is a planning obligation with a deadline, so its programme matters as much as its price.

What do developers usually need surfaced?
Equipped play areas under a planning obligation, footpaths and public realm in resin or macadam, and car parks with lining. Larger schemes sometimes add a MUGA. We price each package separately, so it can sit in the right part of your cost plan.
How big does a LAP, LEAP or NEAP need to be?
Whatever your council’s open space policy says, and many still use the Fields in Trust benchmarks. As one council’s assessment sets them out, a LAP has an activity zone of 0.01 ha (10 x 10 m) within 100 m of homes, a LEAP 0.04 ha within 400 m, and a NEAP 0.1 ha (31.6 x 31.6 m) within 1,000 m. Buffers run from 5 m to the dwelling boundary for a LAP to 20 m and 30 m to habitable room windows for a LEAP and NEAP.
Check the figures in your own section 106 agreement or planning conditions, because they override any general benchmark. Our quote then surfaces the activity zone to the fall height of the equipment specified. See play area design for surface choices by zone.
How it works

- 03Written quoteBuilt around your reopening date.
What does an adopting council or management company want at handover?
Records that prove the play area was built to specification. Expect to hand over the surfacing specification and depths, the tested critical fall height for each zone, product data, and a post-installation inspection report by an independent inspector. RoSPA lists post-installation inspections as a separate service from annual checks. Agree the list with the adopting body before work starts, so nothing holds up the transfer.
Can you surface footpaths and public realm in resin?
Yes. Resin bound is permeable on a permeable base, which helps where your drainage strategy relies on SuDS, and it gives a decorative, loose-stone-free finish for squares, tree pits and walking routes. A real 21 m2 footpath quote came to about £154 per m2 for the resin finish. See resin bound surfacing and resin bound paths for detail.
What does car park surfacing and lining cost?
Lining is the cheap part: one parish council was quoted £625 to £1,270 for about 37 bays. The surface itself, whether porous or dense macadam, is priced on survey from the area, base condition and drainage. Car park surfacing explains the options.
Can the work be phased with the build?
Yes. Play areas and paths can be laid plot by plot or in one visit before occupation deadlines. Give us the programme dates in your planning conditions, and the quote shows how many visits are needed and when.
Do you work as a subcontractor to main contractors?
Yes. We quote to your package scope, take your site rules and inductions, and submit the method statement your site team needs before we start.

Illustrative example
From the table only; not a real scheme. A developer must deliver a LAP of 100 m2 and line a visitor car park of about 37 bays. Wetpour across the LAP comes to about £4,000 to £14,000, and the lining to £625 to £1,270, so the two packages start at roughly £4,600 to £15,300 excluding VAT, before ground works.
Who does the work
Play and Sport Surfaces is a WeDo Property Services service. Alex Winser runs your package from tender to handover and is the single contact for your site manager, and the installers carry out the work on site.
