We install outdoor gyms, trim trails and play equipment that schools, councils, housing developers and holiday parks have already bought, and lay the safety surface underneath in the same visit. Installation is priced per item on survey; the surfacing under it runs from about £22 per m2 for grass mats to £140 per m2 for deep wetpour, excluding VAT. Fitting is booked around your closure dates. Send the supplier’s drawings and your site plan, and we send a written quote.
Installation labour depends on the item, so the firm figures here are for the surface each piece needs.

Can you install equipment we have already bought?
Yes. Send the manufacturer’s installation drawings, the item list and your site plan, and we price the fitting and the surface together. Equipment makers set the footing sizes, spacing and free space around each item, so we work from their instructions rather than our own.
What does installation cost?
It depends on the item, its footings and the ground, so we price each piece on survey rather than publish a figure. Concrete footings, the distance from the gate to the install area and how much old equipment or surface has to come out are the main drivers. Ask for each item as its own line so you can phase the work.
How it works
- 01Send a plan and photosThe site, the surface and the date it must reopen.
- 02We check the groundLevels and where the water drains.
- 03Written quoteBuilt around your reopening date.
Do you install outdoor gyms and trim trails?
Yes, both are common for schools, parks and estates. Outdoor gym stations and trim trail pieces each need their own footings and a surface suited to their use and fall height. A trim trail across a field may need a path or mats to stop the ground wearing to mud along the route.
What surface goes under new equipment?
One whose tested critical fall height meets or exceeds the fall height of the item above it, across the whole landing area. Grass mats suit low items on good turf, bonded mulch suits natural settings, and wetpour suits busy or accessible areas. Compare them on safety surfacing for playgrounds, and see critical fall height for how depth is set.
Who signs off the installation?
The owner arranges an independent post-installation inspection before the equipment opens, and we hand over the surface test details and our installation records for it. See playground inspection for how inspections work and what they cost.
Can PE and sport premium pay for equipment?
No. The gov.uk guidance names fixed playground equipment as capital, which the premium must not fund. Schools usually pay from capital budgets, fundraising or community grants.
Can old equipment be removed at the same time?
Yes. Removal, disposal and making good the ground are quoted as separate lines, so you can see what the change-over costs.

Illustrative example
From the surfacing rows only, not a real job. A primary fits a trim trail whose landing areas add up to 60 m2. Under it, grass mats would come to roughly £1,310, bonded mulch to about £3,650 to £5,060, and wetpour to £2,400 to £8,400. Fitting the trail is added per item on survey, before VAT.
Who does the work
Play and Sport Surfaces is a WeDo Property Services service. Once we have your enquiry, Alex Winser checks the maker’s drawings and runs the job to handover, and the installers fit the equipment and lay the surface.
Often needed alongside
Equipment is often one part of a wider school playground surfacing scheme or a nursery garden on EYFS outdoor area. Public and estate sites should see play area design.
