Choose the sport, the size, the surface and the colours for a new MUGA, tennis, netball or basketball court or a 3G pitch, or for resurfacing, relining or cleaning an existing one. The designer draws your court and shows a price band built from Sport England, LTA and real council quotes, such as about £34 to £37 per m2 to resurface a macadam MUGA. Send the design and Alex Winser arranges a survey and written quote, anywhere in the UK.

How does the court designer work?

In five steps, and it takes a couple of minutes:

  1. Project: a new court or pitch, resurfacing, relining or cleaning.
  2. Sport: MUGA, tennis, netball, basketball, five-a-side or 3G, with the line sets you want on one surface.
  3. Size: pick a standard size or type in your own length and width.
  4. Surface and colours: macadam, polymeric, acrylic, artificial grass or 3G, then the court, surround and line colours.
  5. Extras: fencing, floodlights, goals, hoops or posts.

You see a drawing of your court and a price band straight away. Send it with your postcode and timing, and it reaches Alex as a ready-made brief.

Which price figures does the designer use?

Only published figures, each shown with its source. For new builds it uses Sport England’s Facility Cost Guidance: a fenced, floodlit macadam MUGA of 782 m2 at £190,000, two tennis courts at £260,000 and four at £460,000, and a junior 3G pitch at £515,000 to £545,000. For resurfacing, relining and cleaning it uses real quotes from council papers, and the LTA’s average resurfacing costs. Where no published figure exists, such as a single netball court, it says so and asks for a survey instead of guessing.

Why does it show a band, not a price?

Because the things that move a court’s price most are on your site, not in a drawing. Sport England’s own figures leave out VAT, poor ground, difficult access and regional cost differences. The designer gets you to the right order of cost; the survey turns it into a price you can sign.

What does a result look like?

Illustrative example, built only from the figures the designer uses. A parish council chooses “Resurface”, “MUGA”, 36.60 x 21.35 m, porous macadam, with netball, five-a-side and basketball lines. The designer shows:

  • area 782 m2, resurfacing at about £34 to £37 per m2: about £26,300 to £29,000 plus VAT
  • relining three sports: £600 per sport in one real quote, so about £1,800, against £1,250 for a whole-court relining in another
  • the source of each line and a note that the base must be sound for a resurface to be the right choice

Can I design a court for my garden?

Yes. Choose “New court”, “Tennis” and your own measurements. Sport England and the LTA publish prices for club courts in sets of two or more, so a single garden court shows those benchmarks for reference and goes to a survey for its own price. Our guide to planning permission for courts and pitches explains why fencing and lights matter for a garden court.

Can the designer handle a 3G pitch or a full MUGA build?

Yes, for the sizes Sport England prices. Large builds take longer to plan, so the designer also asks whether you need help with funding and planning. For costs in detail see MUGA cost, tennis court cost and 3G pitch cost.

What happens after I send my design?

We read it, ask for anything missing, and arrange a survey. You then get a written, itemised quote with VAT on its own line, built on your actual site. Your design is saved with the enquiry, so nobody asks you to describe the court again.

What if the designer will not load?

Use the simple version on the same page. It asks the same questions as plain form fields and shows the same price band on the next page. You can also call 0333 772 0141 or send a sketch through the contact form.
