From Maidstone primaries to Medway academies, Kent projects range from wetpour under play equipment to a MUGA on an old playground. Wetpour under equipment is published at £40 to £140 per m2 excluding VAT, and a MUGA resurface has been quoted at about £36 per m2 on a 713 m2 court. The quote depends on the base, the depth and the timing you need, which a survey settles. Send photos and Alex Winser books one.

Our academy is in Chatham. Which council handles planning?

Medway Council, a unitary authority separate from Kent County Council, covers Chatham and the other Medway towns. Everywhere else, the district or borough council decides. New fencing and floodlights are what usually need consent; for a resurface, ask the council first if the surface type or colour will change.

Why does a community use agreement matter for a Kent school?

Because funders and planners look for it. Canterbury’s playing pitch strategy lists 15 education sites, including Herne Bay High School, Spires Academy and the two Simon Langton grammar schools, that already let clubs use their pitches without a secured arrangement, and makes formalising them the highest priority. In Tunbridge Wells, the 2017 strategy records that Sport England asked for a community use agreement within nine months of planning permission for St Gregory’s 3G pitch. A Kent school planning a 3G pitch or MUGA that clubs will hire should agree the terms early, because grant and planning decisions often depend on them.

How long will council tennis courts be out of use?

Allow for the colour coats to wait for good weather. Gravesham’s £120,000 renewal of courts at Windmill Gardens and Woodlands Park reopened in November 2024 on temporary lines, with the final colour spray at Woodlands Park, Wombwell Park and one Windmill Gardens court held over to spring 2025, weather permitting. A school or club should not expect acrylic colour in late autumn or winter; base work can go ahead, and the finish follows when it is dry and mild. The tennis court construction page explains the stages.

Is our Kent field in the Green Belt?

Possibly, near the London edge. Dartford alone had 4,090 hectares of Green Belt in March 2025, so a playing field on the fringe of a north-west Kent town may well be in it. Outdoor sport is allowed there if it preserves openness, so tall fencing and lighting columns get the attention; see the planning guide for courts and pitches.

Is the Canterbury pitch strategy still current?

Check its date before quoting it. It was signed off in October 2020 and says Sport England and the governing bodies treat a strategy as out of date if it is not reviewed within three years, or five if kept live. A bid that leans on an old strategy may need fresh evidence, so ask the council what has replaced it.

Can a MUGA go on our existing Kent playground?

Usually, if the tarmac is sound. Many Kent schools have no spare field, so the MUGA sits on the yard and reuses its base.

What should a Kent school send with an enquiry?

Photos of the yard or field and the gate a lorry would use, the area involved, the dates the site is free, and whether clubs already use your pitches under a written agreement. If you are in Medway, say so, because the council is different. For a Maidstone or Canterbury school planning a hired-out facility, the agreement question is worth settling before we design anything.

Who looks after a Kent job?

Alex Winser: he runs the survey, agrees the programme around term dates, and checks the surface with you at handover. The surfacing teams lay, test and line it, and the specialist teams fit any fencing or lighting on the same fixed written price. Every price band we work from is on the costs page . We arrange a vetted local surfacing contractor to carry out Kent work, confirm who within 2 working days, or tell you plainly if we can’t.
