Sheffield and South Yorkshire schools refreshing playground markings, and clubs relining courts, will find the local rules and price guides here. No installer publishes a full price list for thermoplastic designs, so we price yours from the layout at survey. For reference, relining a sports court was quoted to one parish council at £600 per sport in 2025, and supply-only marking kits sell for £131.19 to £938.52 ex VAT before anyone lays them. The playground markings page shows designs and drying times.

Can our primary school use the PE and sport premium for new lines?

For repainting existing lines, yes. The government guidance gives repainting playground lines as an example of maintenance the premium can fund, while a new MUGA or an active mile track counts as capital it cannot. A Barnsley or Doncaster primary refreshing a faded layout can use this year’s allocation; a brand-new design may count as capital, and the Department for Education will not rule on individual cases, so ask your finance lead before ordering.

Do we need planning permission in South Yorkshire for a court or pitch?

For markings on an existing playground, no. For a new fenced court, floodlights or a pitch, usually yes, and the authority depends on where you are. Sheffield’s western edge lies inside the Peak District National Park, and there the National Park Authority is the planning authority, not the city council. Much of the rest of the county’s open land is in the South and West Yorkshire Green Belt, 245,870 hectares in the 2025 figures, where outdoor sport facilities are allowed only if they keep the land open. Our planning guide explains what that means for fencing and lights.

What has the Football Foundation funded in Sheffield recently?

The Gordon Banks Sports Hub on Woodbourn Road in Darnall, unveiled in May 2025. It has seven LED-floodlit small-sided 3G pitches, paid for with £2.1 million from the Premier League, The FA and the Government’s Football Foundation and £0.9 million from Sheffield City Council. Six of the 5v5 pitches are part of a three-year Foundation study of alternatives to rubber crumb infill with Loughborough University, so any club choosing an infill now has local results to watch. The hub also has a 400m track and a refurbished pavilion, which is a reminder that a pitch bid usually goes further when changing rooms are part of it.

Is there still a shortage of 3G pitches in Sheffield?

Yes. The city’s Local Football Facility Plan (May 2025) counts 26 full-size 3G pitches and calls for seven more, plus replacement carpets at Concord Sports Centre, Sheffield Springs Academy and Ecclesfield School. Named projects include a floodlit pitch at Bracken Moor for Stocksbridge Park Steels and two pitches in the south east, with Leisure United Westfield suggested; sites in the north and south west are still to be found. It also lists new pavilions at Bents Green, Steel City Recreation Ground, Whirlow, Jubilee Sports and Social Club and East Park. A school or club near one of those sites has the clearest funding case. See artificial pitches.

Lines on a MUGA or tennis court: what is different?

The paint. Macadam, acrylic and polymeric surfaces each take a different line paint, and a multi-sport court needs its colours chosen so players can tell netball from football at a glance. Relining is usually one visit in dry weather. If the surface under the lines is breaking up, resurface first; our MUGA and tennis courts pages compare the costs, and every band is on our costs page .

Which South Yorkshire council do we deal with?

Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley or Doncaster, each a separate metropolitan borough with its own planning and parks teams. We put the right council on the quote so any consent or landlord permission goes to the right office. For a council-maintained school the property team may need to approve even a markings job, while an academy trust signs off its own.

Who runs a South Yorkshire job?

We arrange a vetted local surfacing contractor for South Yorkshire jobs. We confirm who within 2 working days, or tell you if we can’t. You deal with Alex Winser throughout, and nothing is booked until you have the written quote and know who is doing the work.
