In Surrey the surface is rarely the hard part; the Green Belt, a narrow lane or a tight school gate usually is. Wetpour under play equipment typically costs about £40 to £140 per m2 before VAT. For courts, Epsom and Ewell’s own figures put a moss treatment of three courts at £450 and a full rotary deep clean at £1,950, both plus VAT, which is a fair guide to what an ageing club or school court costs to bring back. Send photos and Alex Winser arranges a survey.

Can community money pay for courts in a Surrey village?

Often, and Woking shows how. The two courts at West Byfleet Recreation Ground were renewed for £117,000 in 2024: over £56,000 from the LTA Tennis Foundation and £61,000 from West Byfleet’s share of neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy collected by Woking Borough Council. Resurfacing, repainting, new fencing, nets and a gate system were all in. A residents’ association or parish with CIL money waiting should ask its borough about it before assuming a court is out of reach.

Is a garden or club court in Surrey likely to be in the Green Belt?

In much of the county, yes. In Mole Valley alone, government figures put 19,510 hectares in the Green Belt at March 2025, after its new local plan released 120 hectares. National policy allows outdoor sport facilities there if they preserve openness, so a court laid flush with the lawn is low risk, while tall fencing and floodlights are what planners weigh. Our planning guide for courts and pitches explains the steps, and the quote prices fence height and lighting as separate lines.

How long does a Surrey park court refurbishment take?

Most of a season. Surrey Heath’s £184,815.83 programme for courts at Watchetts, Mytchett and Frimley Green recreation grounds was planned to start in spring 2023 and finish by summer, with resurfacing, gate access and online booking, paid for by the Government and the LTA Tennis Foundation’s Park Tennis Project. A school or club should allow similar lead time: a survey, a written quote, governors or committee sign-off, then a dry-weather slot for the colour coats.

Do we clean, repaint or resurface our Surrey court?

Clean first if the surface is sound but green with moss and algae; repaint when the colour has worn but the base is level; resurface when it cracks, ponds or lifts. The survey says which, and our tennis court construction page covers full rebuilds where nothing else will do.

Which surface suits a Surrey school play area?

Wetpour under climbing frames and swings, laid to the fall height of the tallest piece, is the hard-wearing default. Many Surrey schools and nurseries then want a softer look on the edges, so shock-padded artificial grass or bonded rubber mulch can be added and each surface tested. Where a ball court shares the yard, our MUGA page sets out the options.

How do delivery lorries get to a rural Surrey school or court?

With a route agreed at survey. Narrow lanes, weight limits and soft verges are common around village schools and private courts, so we note them and, where a smaller vehicle or a longer barrow run is needed, the quote says so up front.

Who runs a Surrey job?

We arrange a vetted local surfacing contractor to carry out Surrey work, confirm who within 2 working days, or tell you plainly if we can’t. Alex Winser keeps the job moving as your one point of contact, and you see the contractor’s name on the written quote before you agree to anything.
